Thirty-three year-old journalist Hunter S. Thompson drives a rented white Cadillac convertible to Las Vegas from San Francisco, with his travel and drug binge companion, activist lawyer Oscar Zeta Acosta. Arriving hungry later that day, the pair pulls up to a taco stand. After placing their order, Acosta asks the cashier for directions to the American Dream, and a journey begins.
